CARICOM congratulates Suriname on 47th Independence Anniversary

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) joins the people and government of the Republic of Suriname in celebrating the Forty-Seventh Anniversary of Independence that is being observed on 25 November 2022.

In a congratulatory message, Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett, commended the progress the country has made since Independence, pointing out that it exemplifies a “spirit of determination and a commitment to strive for growth and sustainable development for the collective welfare of the country”.

Please read below the Secretary-General’s message to President of Suriname, His Excellency Chandrikapersad Santokhi:

“Excellency:

On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), I wish to extend congratulations to the Government and People of the Republic of Suriname on the occasion of your country’s Forty-Seventh Anniversary of Independence.

The progress made by the Republic of Suriname in these 47 years exemplifies a spirit of determination and a commitment to strive for growth and sustainable development for the collective welfare of the country.

Your Excellency, I wish to place on record the Community’s appreciation for your enlightened leadership and the astute manner with which you represent our Community in your capacity as Chairman of the Conference. The Community also welcomes the advancements being made in the areas of Community Development and Cultural Cooperation including Gender Youth and Sport, as well as Industrial Policy under your guidance as Lead Head in the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet. The CARICOM Secretariat reaffirms its commitment to the Government and People of the Republic of Suriname as the country advances rapidly towards achieving its sustainable development objectives.

CARICOM is pleased to join the People and Government of the Republic of Suriname in celebrating the Forty-Seventh Anniversary of Independence and extends its best wishes for its continued progress.”
