CARICOM BUREAU MAKES RECOMMENDATION ON HAITI

The Bureau of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) – comprising the Chairman (the Prime Minister of Grenada), the Immediate Past Chairman (the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda), the Next Chairman (the President of Suriname) and the Secretary-General – has arrived at a recommendation on the Community's relations with the Interim Administration of Haiti. The recommendation, which has been transmitted to all Heads of Government of the Community for their consideration and feedback, was arrived at during the 18th Meeting of the Bureau, which was held at Grand Anse, Grenada on Wednesday (July 28) to receive and consider the report of the CARICOM Ministerial team which visited Haiti earlier this month. Heads of Government have been invited to respond to the recommendations by mid-August.

Secretary-General of CARICOM, Mr. Edwin W. Carrington said that in arriving at its recommendation, the Bureau was giving substance to the Community's firm commitment to what is in the best interest of the Haitian people, without prejudicing the principles underlying the functioning of the Community.
