CARIBBEAN/CUBA TRADE SYMPOSIUM FOR GUYANA

Cuba will be the focus of four days of activity in Guyana beginning November 18.

The CARICOM/Cuba Joint Commission will hold its Fifth Meeting on November 18-19 and immediately following, Guyana will be host for a two-day Caribbean/Cuba Trade and Investment Symposium on November 20-21. The symposium is being held with the assistance of the CARICOM Secretariat and the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA).

The symposium will focus on the Cuban market and investment possibilities on that island. The prospective participants are manufacturers, importers, exporters, hoteliers, investment agencies, banks and Regional institutions engaged in trade development.

Discussions on the Cuban market will feature the business environment, market characteristics, commercial systems, export opportunities and transportation while those interested in investment will have an opportunity to glean profiles of industrial sectors in Cuba as well as learn about procedures.

Products and services which Cuba wishes to export to the Region will be highlighted and CEDA will make a presentation on the operations of its Trade Facilitation Office which opened in Havana last year. A mini trade exhibition is also being planned to coincide with the activities.

Resource persons for the symposium will be drawn from the public and private sectors in both Cuba and CARICOM.

Contact person for those interested in the Symposium are Ms Carol Ayoung at the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana and Mr Randolph Hickson at Caribbean Export, Bridgetown, Barbados.
