Bolt’s feat fills ‘our Community with pride’ – CARICOM Chair

Usain Bolt’s feat of three consecutive gold medals in the 100 metres at the Olympics is “unprecedented” and “fills our Community with pride”, Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt said.

“His excellence is an example of the skill and talents which our youths possess and is a beacon of the greatness which beckons those who are willing to make the necessary sacrifices to achieve great heights,” Prime Minster Skerrit said in a congratulatory message.

Bolt, of Jamaica, flew into the history books on Sunday evening in fine style, clocking 9.81 seconds, coming from behind to beat the USA’s Justin Gatlin. Canada’s Andre de Grasse came in third.

The CARICOM Chair also extended congratulations to Elaine Thompson on her “tremendous triumph” in the women’s 100 metres on Saturday.

“Ms. Thompson’s outstanding performance presented further evidence, if any was needed, of the deep pool of talent that her country, Jamaica, possesses in track and field.  The Community shares in the pride of its Member State as it maintains its dominance in the world of women’s sprinting,” the CARICOM Chairman said.
