BERMUDA-TOURISM-“Bermuda missing out on gay millions” – industry insiders

HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Industry insiders believe old-fashioned attitudes about the lucrative gay marriage market are costing Bermuda millions of dollars in tourism revenue.
They have warned that Bermuda is losing out as same-sex unions become the norm in the western world, the Bermuda Sun newspaper said in its Wednesday edition.
Much of the opposition to change in Bermuda comes from the majority of the island's churches, which also are against the introduction of casinos.
Philip Barnett, head of the Island Restaurant Group said “Bermuda not being a gay-friendly destination can only hurt our chances of improving our tourist base. — it’s genteel, romantic and it has beautiful places to get away from it all, get married here or whatever they want to do.
