Blog written by Kenroy Simpson Cal – CARICOM Youth Ambassador – Belize
As Belize’s CARICOM Youth Ambassador, I had the privilege of participating in a week-long Climate Change and Health Orientation and Training Workshop for CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) and youth leaders from CARICOM nations, held at the CARICOM Headquarters in Guyana.
This invaluable experience provided me with the opportunity to connect with inspiring youth leaders and hone essential skills which are crucial for driving positive change. Our facilitator, Christopher Chinapoo, played a pivotal role in guiding us on how to enhance our project plans. We delved into topics such as citizen science, theory of change, Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs and Customers (SIPOC) analysis, data collection planning, and effective budgeting.
Armed with this knowledge, Youth Ambassador Marissa Cervantes and I are now equipped to implement a project plan aimed at raising awareness about climate change mitigation in the upcoming months. Our goal is to engage various stakeholders, especially young people, as we recognize the urgent need to address the daily impact of climate change on our planet. This workshop not only empowered us with practical skills but also instilled a sense of optimism and determination to be part of the solution to climate change.
We understand that climate change’s effects are tangible and pervasive, affecting our communities daily. By taking proactive steps now, we are fulfilling our responsibility to safeguard our planet for future generations.
Our commitment extends beyond mere awareness-raising efforts. We are committed to collaborating with diverse stakeholders to drive meaningful change and create a sustainable future.
As youth ambassadors, we recognize the critical role that young people play in tackling global challenges such as climate change.
Our project plan emphasizes the importance of youth engagement and involvement, recognizing their potential as catalysts for change. By harnessing the energy, creativity, and passion of our peers, we are confident that we can make a tangible impact in our communities and beyond. Our journey towards climate change mitigation is just beginning, but with dedication, collaboration, and perseverance, we are determined to make a difference and inspire others to join us in saving our planet Earth.
