CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – The St. Lucia government will table legislation that will make it mandatory for potential candidates in a general election to declare whether or not they are in possession of a passport from another country. Dame Pearlette Louisy, delivering the traditional Throne Speech at the start of a new session of the St. Lucia parliament on Tuesday, said the Kenny Anthony administration would also enact new legislation that would render it unlawful for individuals who have committed crimes from participating in elections without frank and full disclosure of their criminal record to the electorate. She said also that legislation governing the electoral process should not be left for enactment on the eve of a general election since “this only induces suspicion and cynicism.
