CARICOM’S CHAIRMAN LEADS DELEGATION TO SURINAME

A delegation from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is currently in Suriname holding consultations with officials of the Government, the Labour Movement and the business sector. Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, Barbados Prime Minister, Mr. Owen Arthur, is leading the delegation which traveled to the CARICOM Member State on 6 May 2001.

He is accompanied by CARICOM Secretary-General Mr. Edwin Carrington, and Assistant Secretary-General, Foreign and Community Relations, Ambassador. Albert Ramdin. Other members of the delegation are representing both the Barbados Government and the Georgetown based CARICOM Secretariat.

The CARICOM delegation will meet with Surname President, His Excellency Runaldo R. Venetiaan as well as pay a courtesy call on the Chairman of the National Assembly, Honourable Jagernath Lachmon. Prime Minister Arthur and his team are also slated to hold meetings with representatives of the Trade Union Movement and participate in a working luncheon with representatives of the business community.

The delegation is scheduled end its three-day visit on 8 May 2001.
