(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Ms Henna Brunnings, a national of Suriname, topped a Regional field of 8 entries to win the contest for the design of the logo for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Competition Commission
Ms Brunnings was presented with her prize and a scroll during the ceremony marking the inauguration of the Commission on Friday 18 January at the Commission’s headquarters in Paramaribo, Suriname. CARICOM Secretary-General His Excellency Edwin Carrington made the presentation. The winner’s prize was US $2,500.
The logo comprises three prominent non-interlocking “Cs” and three arrows emanating from the ‘Cs’, the entire entity representing a powerful arrowhead. The Cs symbolize the Commission and the arrows signify the forward movement of production, trade and commerce within the Community. The emerging arrow represents a business partner within CARICOM. The fact that the C’s don’t intertwine represents independence and healthy competition among constituencies. The name of the institution itself forms the main shaft. The entire entity with its thrusting arrowhead symbolises the spearhead of the Community’s drive to secure its place in the global economy.
