(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The CARICOM/PANCAP Regional Coordinating Mechanism (RCM) will hold its eleventh meeting on 4-5 September 2008, in Dominica.
High on the agenda of the meeting of the executive body of PANCAP is the implementation and management of the recently revised Caribbean Regional Strategic Framework 2008 -2012, the work programme of the partnership. The meeting is expected to agree on the modalities, including establishing a Committee to direct the essential planning, monitoring and evaluation, for the successful implementation of this work progamme.
Up for discussion also, are the recommendations of the organization and management review of the PANCAP Coordinating Unit and their implications for policy and financing. The meeting is being asked to approve these recommendations and to establish a timeframe for their implementation.
Matters related to the PANCAP Proposal for Round 9 of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) will also be discussed at this meeting. Specifically, it will consider a Draft Request for Proposal, including its elements and process for its timely submission to the GFATM.
As part of its outreach efforts into the national communities, a special opening session will be held at which a cross-section of representatives from government and non-governmental organizations involved in the fight against HIV and AIDS is expected to engage members of the RCM.
Established in 2001, PANCAP – a network which comprises government and the private sector, faith-based organizations and other NGOs, regional institutions and agencies, the UN system and donor partners – continues to make an important contribution to reversing the spread of HIV and AIDS in the Caribbean region.
