Nicolette Boatswain, a Guyanese student of Bishop's High School captained her team to victory in the final round of the Regional Quiz Competition held in Georgetown, Guyana in early June. Boatswain, along with team members Mariscia Charles and Jamal La Rose of St Joseph's High defeated St. Kitts and Nevis to gain the top spot in the competition.
The Regional quiz, the first for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), was geared to sensitise and educate High School students from CARICOM Member States and Associate Members about the Region. It marked the final in a series of activities commemorating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of CARICOM.
The Guyanese team captain was adjudged the best team player in the competition, while Ghanja O'Flaherty of St. Kitts and Nevis was named the best entrant of her team. Questions fielded at the competition focused on the activities of CARICOM, and aspects of Social Studies, History and Culture, pertinent to the respective Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) syllabus.
The earlier rounds of the competition were held in Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. Other participating countries included Anguilla, Belize, Dominica, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.
Top performers and team finalists were presented with individual trophies. The quizmaster was Guyanese communications specialist, Dr. Rovin Deodat.
