(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A two-day sensitization workshop hosted by the CARICOM Secretariat on Free Movement within the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) opens Thursday in Grenada.. Its objective is to share information and increase awareness of the free movement regimes. Minister for Labour, the Honourable Elvin Nimrod, will deliver an address at the opening ceremony that also features remarks by the President of the Grenada Chamber of Commerce among other officials.
The target groups for this activity are the private sector, employers’ organizations and trade unions in CARICOM Member States where free movement processes are operational. Approximately thirty stakeholders are participating in the workshop that will be held at the Grenadian by Rex Resorts. The activity is funded by the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).
The sensitization workshop will highlight the provisions of the following CSME regimes: free movement of skills/labour and the facilitation of travel generally; the right of establishment; and the free movement of services. Participants will be apprised of the operations and benefits of these processes and how they can make full use of the cross-border economic opportunities. This awareness drive across the 12 Member States will run from January to May 2016. Resource persons from the CARICOM Secretariat will conduct the sessions.
