Building the CARICOM Communications Network

As efforts continue to develop a network of CARICOM Communications professionals, a sub-group mainly from Caribbean Community Institutions in Barrbados and the CARICOM Secretariat recommitted to closer collaboration during a recent lunch-meeting at CDB Headquarters, Barbados.

The get-together was a spin-off from an earlier on-line meeting of professionals across the Community, in which the Communications operatives agreed, among other things, that:

There is a case for improving coordination and collaboration.
We need to move to a point where Communications Operatives see themselves not only as taking on communications responsibilities for their Institutions but are in some way linked to a larger CARICOM Brand.
We need to direct the public’s mind to the fact that the services delivered by Institutions are in fact delivered by CARICOM. This helps to create brand awareness and positively addresses the issue of the value of CARICOM to the citizens of the region.  We need to ask are these services  being identified in the public’s mind with the existence of the regional entity that is CARICOM.

Professionals at the Barbados -based Institutions and the Secretariat have agreed to maintain regular exchanges. Similar engagements are envisioned for the other Member States with clusters of Institutions.
