CARICOM Chair

The  Honourable  Dr. Terrance M. Drew is the fourth Prime Minister of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis since August 6, 2022, following a decisive victory by the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.

He leads with a clear and unwavering vision, spearheading his administration’s transformative Sustainable Island State Agenda, a bold blueprint designed to achieve long-term resilience, economic diversification, and environmental sustainability for the Federation. In addition to his responsibilities as Prime Minister, Dr. Drew holds the vital portfolios of Finance, National Security, Citizenship and Immigration, Health, Human Resource Management, and Social Security, positioning him at the heart of the nation’s governance and reform. Regionally, he serves as the Lead Head of Government within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for Human Resource Development, Health, and HIV/AIDS.

Outgoing CARICOM Chair

Prime Minister Holness holds a Doctor of Law and Policy degree from the Northeastern University and is an alumnus of The University of the West Indies, from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies and a Master of Science degree in Development Studies. He holds the distinction of becoming the youngest Jamaican elected as a Member of Parliament, at the age of 25 years. In 2011, Prime Minister Holness set a new milestone by becoming Jamaica’s youngest Prime Minister and the first born after the country’s independence in 1962. He was elected in 2016 at 44 years old, becoming the youngest to be elected to the office. In 2020, Prime Minister Holness secured a second term as Prime Minister. He oversees key portfolio areas, including defence and economic growth and job creation, encompassing housing, water, climate change, and works.

In the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet, Prime Minister Holness has responsibility for external trade negotiations.

The 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community will be convened in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis, from 24-27 February 2026.

St. Kitts and Nevis became a full member of CARICOM on 26 July 1974 and holds responsibility for Human Resource Development, Health and HIV and AIDS in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet.
Location: St. Kitts is located in the Eastern Caribbean at 17.20° N, 62.45° W, roughly 1,200 miles from Miami, 1,600 miles from New York, 4000 miles from London, 350 miles (or 55 minutes by plane) from Puerto Rico, and 155 miles (or 30 minutes by plane) from the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The capital of St. Kitts is Basseterre, which means lowland in French. The name was given to the town by the French settlers of the 17th century.
The island is 68 square miles with a population of approximately 40,000.

Culture: Known as Mother Colony of the West Indies, St Kitts and Nevis culture is a vibrant fusion of African, British, French, and Indigenous influences, characterised by strong community ties, colourful festivals like Carnival and Culturama, passionate cricket, unique traditions such as Moko-Jumbies, and Creole language alongside official English, all set to a backdrop of delicious Caribbean cuisine.

Host: St Kitts and Nevis has hosted the Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government on several occasions, most recently in July 2011.
