A permanent logo is coming soon for CARIFESTA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A permanent logo is coming soon for CARIFESTA. Members of the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC) were on Thursday presented with possible logo designs to represent the region’s iconic mega cultural Festival. Members of the committee reviewed the designs which have been created by a vendor that was engaged by the CARICOM Secretariat.
The group provided feedback which will be given to the designer for amendments and further development.
Discussions of the RCC, which is currently meeting at the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Center in Port-of-Spain 27-29 March 2019, focused mainly on further preparations for CARIFESTA XIV, Reparations and support for the cultural and creative industries in the Region.
The meeting received presentations from the government of Trinidad and Tobago on the specifics of preparations for CARIFESTA, particularly as it related to marketing and communications, logistics such as registration and accommodation, as well as the artistic components and programming for the arts Festival.
Preparations for the Festival are well underway, with Trinidad and Tobago selecting brand ambassadors for the event such as Machel Montano and Nailah Blackman. There have also been several marketing initiatives such as a talent road show and videos and advertisements across various regional media.
The presentations at the RCC stemmed from discussions of the Interim Festival Directorate meeting which was held 25-26 March 2019, also in Trinidad and Tobago.
The committee also discussed a Regional Development and Action Plan for the cultural Industries in CARICOM, and Programme Manager, Culture and Community Development at the CARICOM Secretariat gave an update on the issue of Reparations for Native Genocide and Slavery.
Regional Support Programmes for culture were also discussed. Specifically, the RCC heard a presentation from Caribbean Export regarding the organisation’s support to the creative industries. The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) also had a representative at the meeting who gave a presentation on the Cultural and Creative Industries Innovation Fund (CIF). A representative of the OECS was also present and spoke about the support that is provided by that organisation to the creative industries. A presentation was made by the University of the West Indies (UWI) on behalf on UNESCO on a Regional Study that was done on Cultural Policies in CARICOM. Some of the RCC members also visited the Queen’s Hall on Thursday to assess this venue for theatrical and other performing arts.
The RCC Meeting ends on Friday 29 March 2019. The Committee comprises Regional Directors of Culture and technical officers who guide and advise Regional Ministers of Culture on matters of importance in the culture industry.
