Vacancy Announcement FAO Programme/Liaison Officer – CARICOM Secretariat

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in collaboration with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, is desirous of recruiting a suitably qualified individual to fill the position of FAO Programme/Liaison Officer – CARICOM Secretariat. It is planned that the position will be funded for a period of 7 months in the first instance.

The CCS/FAO Programme Liaison Officer (FAO PLO) will be employed by FAO and on a general basis will work under the coordination of FAO Sub-Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean. On a daily basis the FAO PLO will work under the supervision of and report to the Programme Manager, Agriculture and Industry  of the CCS, working collaboratively with the Deputy Progamme Manager and the Agricultural Trade Specialist of the Office of Trade Negotiations .  The CCS/FAO Programme - Liaison Officer will facilitate a more direct and responsive presence of FAO at the CCS and perform a variety of programmatic, monitoring, liaison, communication, information gathering, and logistics functions in support of FAO related and CCS’s activities towards the achievement of food and nutrition security (FNS) and eradication of rural poverty in CARICOM countries.  Specifically the Officer will undertake the following tasks:

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specifically the Officer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Assist in the FAO Lead Coordinators in the management and the administration of the Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management Thematic Group and the Roots and Tubers Group by working closely with the members of the groups and the Member States in implementing the work programmes.

 

  1. Provide support to the FAO Lead Officer in monitoring and evaluating the national FNS Action Plans for CARICOM Member States.

 

  1. Support the CCS in the continuous improvement of the AGRICARIB Website (http://www.agricarib.org/) and its various social media platforms with particular emphasis on the priority commodities and thematic focal areas for agriculture

 

  1. Support trade facilitation through active examination of import statistics, extra-regional markets opportunities, matters receiving the attention of the COTED and deriving a mechanism to improve the linkages between buyers and sellers.

 

  1. Act as liaison to follow-up on FAO correspondence and other official matters with the CCS Commission and prepare background information for FAO’s participation in relevant CCS meetings.

 

  1. Perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time

 

DURATION:        7 months in the first instance

DUTY STATION: CARICOM Secretariat, Guyana

QUALIFICATIONS:           

Post graduate qualification in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Development Planning, Business Administration, Marketing or any related subject with 10 years working experience on agriculture related programme or project design and implementation, planning or development in the Caribbean

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Terms and conditions will be negotiated with the FAO in collaboration with the CARCICOM Secretariat

 

The CARICOM Secretariat is headquartered in GUYANA. The position of FAO Programme/Liaison

Officer – CARICOM Secretariat is open to nationals of CARICOM member states.
