Caribbean Regional Information and Translation Institute (CRITI) works in the following areas:CARICOM Institutions
The Caribbean Regional Information and Translation Institute (CRITI) was founded in January 2008 by the CARIFORUM Council of Ministers with support from the European Commission and headquartered in Suriname. CRITI focuses on bridging the existing language and other communication barriers to effective participation for all CARIFORUM Member States in the process of regional cooperation and regional integration. It especially emphasizes the needs of non-English speaking Members.
CRITI meets these aims by providing multilingual translation and information services that enable regional institutions such as CARIFORUM and CARICOM to better communicate with Member States. CRITI’s services enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the dissemination of information that impacts the lives of citizens in the Caribbean region.
Through its translation services, CRITI makes official, semi-official, private sector, and other information available throughout CARIFORUM and CARICOM, no matter the language in which the information originated. CRITI offers translation, interpretation and information services to professional bodies, regional organizations, and the general public on a cost recovery basis as part of its long-term sustainability strategy.
CRITI’s mandate is to support and promote integration and cooperation in the region. This is achieved through the provision of high quality translation and interpretation services and through the provision of information through our website.
In order to achieve its objectives, CRITI shall:
provide the following services, including but not limited to:
quality translation services, including on-site translation services;
adaptation, certification, comparison, correction, editing, formatting, proof-reading, update, validation, delivery, transcription and writing of texts;
expert support and advice in the organization of interpretation services for conferences etc.;
project management and supervision of translation projects;
advice on linguistic matters;
accreditation of (free-lance) translators;
publication of translated information on the CRITI website with the approval of the agency concerned.
Participate in activities aimed at promoting the objectives of the institution.
